Durian is one of the most popular fruits with pleasantly sweet fragrance and is regarded as the notorious “King of Fruits.”
The most popular cultivars are Mon Thong and Kan Yao. The differences between the two are as follows:

Monthongs durian are large in size with round oval shape,
brownish spikes wide at the base and tapered at the tips and with an average weight of 3-4 kilograms.
The lengths are mostly greater than the width and the grooves between each pulp are prominent
while the pulp itself is large with moderately thick husks. The pale yellow flesh is much thicker than other cultivars.
The flesh of ripened Mon Thong is pale yellow in color with delicate texture and not too sticky.
The unripe Mon Thong is very sweet and rich in flavor while the fully ripe has moderate scent,
less aromatic with lean flat seeds.

Kan Yao is medium in size with round shape – larger at the bottom.
The pulps are indistinct and full-bodied with an average weight of 3 kilograms.
The small short spikes densely and evenly spread all over the green husk.
The stalks are typically bigger and longer than other cultivars with very delicate flesh,
yellow in color, not very thick while the seeds are quite large.
Sweet and rich in flavor with less odorous.

Health Benefits of Durian Fruits
Mon Thong Durian helps lower fat and cholesterol level as it contains Polyphenols and is high in fibers, however,
it is recommended to only consume no more than one pulp per day.
Antioxidants in durian (especially in Mon Thong) helps prevent diseases like heart disease and cancer if consumed properly.
Even though durian contains a high amount of fats,
they are healthy fats that do not cause any harm to the body.
Fibers in durian also help improve bowel movements.
